ABOUT
chär-kōl is a contemporary jewellery studio based in Newcastle, where designer-maker Zoë explores preciousness through strength, fragility, and renewal.
Drawn to ancient landscapes and the rawness of the natural world, Zoë works with ethically sourced bone, raw gemstones, and recycled precious and non-precious metals — finding new value in materials that have been overlooked, discarded, or forgotten. Every design is material-led, shaped by the unique character of each element rather than imposed upon it.
Honesty sits at the heart of the work. Visible tool marks, natural textures, and deliberate imperfections are not flaws to be hidden — they are the story. Each piece carries the trace of its origins and the integrity of how it was made.
Blending bold contemporary design with traditional craft techniques, chär-kōl challenges the conventions of a luxury industry built on excess. No unnecessary polish. No waste. Just considered, handmade wearable art that celebrates the beauty of structure, form, and what already exists.
